Ideas For A Homemade First Birthday Invitation

Send invitations in the colors you've selected for your little girl's first birthday party.

A first birthday party is a special milestone for you and your baby and is an indication that your little one is on her way to toddlerhood. Make your little one's birthday memorable by sending invitations to friends and family that can serve as keepsakes, or small previews of the first birthday party theme. Does this Spark an idea?

Sippy Cup Invitations

Use a sippy cup as the main feature for the first birthday invitation as a symbol that your little one is growing up and may not regularly drink from a bottle anymore. Fill the cup with treats that fit the party theme, like animal crackers for a jungle-themed party, or mini chocolate chip cookies to represent small kid-friendly fare. Decorate the sippy cups by painting your baby boy's name or first initial on the front, or adorning your little girl's birthday invitation with glitter or flower stickers. Tie a string to the cup's handle, and fill out a card made of invitation stock paper with the party's details. Punch a hole in the card, thread the untied end of the string through the hole and tie the string in a knot to attach it to the card before handing out the invitations.

Baby Bib Invitations

Buy a few terry cloth baby bibs, a hot glue gun, and some invitation stock paper. Choose bibs with colors or designs that match the birthday party decor. Print the invitation specifics on the card. Start the invitations with a phrase like "Join us for food and cake -- (your baby's name) is turning 1 today!" Fasten the invitation card onto the bib with glue and let it dry thoroughly before handing them to guests. Or, buy invitation stock paper and a stencil of a baby bib. Cut the bib shapes out of the paper, write the party details on each invite, and staple ribbon to each end of the baby bib to resemble bib ties and add more texture to the invite.

Pacifier Invitations

A pacifier can be used for first birthday invitations as a sign that this is the last party your little one will have as a "baby." Purchase plain pacifiers, then visit your local craft store to pick up invitation stock paper, paint, self-adhesive synthetic jewels, glitter, ribbon, hot glue and stickers. Decorate the pacifiers according to the party theme. For example, use flower stickers for a tea party birthday or pink jewels for a pink princess party. Paint your little girl's initials on the pacifier, and write the party location, date, time, and RSVP details on an invitation card. Glue one end of the ribbon to the back of the invitation, and tie the other end around the pacifier handle.

Handprint or Footprint Invitations

Create a first birthday invitation your little one can help you make by featuring his footprint on the invite. Gently paint his bare foot or hand with blue paint, or a color that matches the party's decor. "Stamp" the invitation paper with his hand or foot, and repeat the process two or three times. Scan the image you like best onto your computer, and adjust the color if necessary. Start the invitation with a phrase like "Our little one's growing up -- come celebrate with us!" Include the rest of the party details, typed over the image of your child's handprint or footprint. Place invitation stock paper in the color of your choice in the printer to start creating the invites.
