Write A Wedding Invitation Yourself

Wedding invitations should match your wedding's style

All wedding invitations follow a basic structure. They should include a request for attendance, the event, date and time, and location. A traditional invitation would read "Mr. and Mrs. Bride's Parents request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter, Bride's Name, and Mr. Groom's Name, son of Mr. and Mrs. Groom's Parents, on Saturday, the eleventh of August, Two thousand and thirteen, at two o'clock in the afternoon, Location Here."

Wedding Hosted by the Bride's Family

The ceremony's host should be listed first. If step-parents are included, the reference to the bride as "their daughter" is omitted. For example, "Mr. and Mrs. Bride's Step-father and Mr. and Mrs. Bride's Father request the honor of your presence at the marriage of Bride's Name, and Mr. Groom's Name, son of Mr. and Mrs. Groom's Parents, on Saturday, the eleventh of August, Two thousand and thirteen, at two o'clock in the afternoon, Location Here."

Wedding Hosted by the Groom's Family

If the groom's parents are hosting the wedding, the bride's name is still listed above the groom's. For example, "Mr. and Mrs. Groom's Father request the honor of your presence at the marriage of Bride's Name and Mr. Groom's Name on Saturday, the eleventh of August, Two thousand and thirteen, at two o'clock in the afternoon, Location Here." When the groom's step-parents host with his parents, they should also be included on the invitation.

Wedding Hosted by the Couple

Many couples host their own weddings. In such cases, the traditional wedding invitation is worded a little differently. For example, "Bride's Name and Groom's Name request the honor of your presence at their marriage on Saturday, the eleventh of August, Two thousand and thirteen, at two o'clock in the afternoon, Location Here." The couple might also choose to generically include their families by simply starting the same invitation with "Together with their families,...."

Casual or Theme Wedding

Country and beach settings create popular wedding themes.

Casual and theme weddings are growing in popularity; and the invitations for them should be as interesting as the wedding. A country-themed wedding could read "Howdy! Bride's Name and Groom's Name would be mighty obliged if you would join them when they get hitched on Saturday, the eleventh of August, Two thousand and thirteen, at two o'clock in the afternoon, Location Here." Have fun with your unique theme, but include all relevant invitation information.
