Use Illustrator To Make A Logo

Creating a Logotype

Adobe Illustrator is graphic design software bundled in the Adobe Creative Suite package. In Illustrator, you can easily make a logotype design with text. Using a few simple features you can give your logo a unique personality. If you have experience in graphic design, drawing or vector based graphics software, you can use Illustrator to make a deluxe logo. Try these simple steps to create a text-based logo in Illustrator.

Instructions

Design Your Logo

1. Use the traditional method first. Draw your logo on paper. If you are using a graphics software for the first time, it will help you to have your idea on paper in front of you while you navigate in the software. Try a few different ideas and keep each on a separate page. Having a hard copy in front of you when you work in Illustrator will help you create a logo on screen. Feel free to try several sketches on paper first and keep them all handy as references when you open Illustrator.

2. Open Illustrator. Go to "File" and "New" from the main menu.

3. Use the "Type Tool." To find the type tool, look for a "T" on the tool bar in Illustrator. The tool bar runs from the top to the bottom of the workspace on the left side of your screen.

4. Go to "Type" on the top menu. Scroll to "Font." You will see a list of the fonts available in the copy of Illustrator you are using. The list will contain examples of what the font looks like. Any usable attributes for the font, such as italic, bold or bold italic will appear when you scroll over the font. You can choose to work with the basic font or the font with an attribute. You can also add an attribute to all or part of your logo later.

5. Using your type tool, click in the center of your screen. You will see a flashing cursor. Type in the letters of your logo. Depending on what you are looking for in your logo, you could be done. If so, skip to Step 8. If you want to add anything to your design, continue to Step 7.

6. Use the attributes at the top of the screen to make any alterations to your simple text logo. Change the font, the size, spacing or height of the logo by using the "Character" menu. If you want to change part of your logo, highlight just those letters and use the character menu to alter just those elements.
