Ideas For Barbecue Decorations

Add decorations to your barbecue.

Barbecues take place in neighborhoods large and small during the warm weather months. Make your barbecue more memorable by dressing up the outdoor space with decorations. The amount of decorations depends on the budget and personal preferences. Whether you choose a few fresh flowers or go all out, the decorations add an inviting atmosphere for the guests. Does this Spark an idea?

Lighting

Lighting is both functional and decorative for a barbecue, particularly if it is held in the evening. As the sun starts to set, the light decorations allow the guests to continue their activities. Paper lanterns offer an inexpensive and pretty decorative lighting option for a backyard barbecue. Strands of lights also work well. Choose plain Christmas lights, strands with large bulbs, rope lighting or novelty strand lights with plastic-shaped covers over them. Glass hurricane lamp shades also work well for an outdoor barbecue. Place candles inside the glass shades to protect the flame from the wind.

Mason Jars

Mason jars add a rustic decoration to the barbecue. They tie in the traditional rustic, western feel of barbecues. When coupled with white-and-red-checkered tablecloths, the guests will feel like they stepped onto a ranch. Mason jars also offer a functional aspect to the barbecue decoration. Place candles inside the mason jars for additional table lighting. Use the jars to hold silverware or napkins for the barbecue. Fill the jars with water and place fresh summer flowers in them for a centerpiece idea. Tie a ribbon around the mason jar vase for additional decorative accent. You can even use the jars as glasses.

Tiki Bar

If you have an outdoor bar, decorate it like a tiki bar for a tropical theme to the barbecue decor. Flank the bar with tiki torches, keeping enough distance so nothing catches fire. Add tiki statues to the bar top. Look for tiki-style statues at a party supply store. Cover the front of the bar with grass skirts or long pieces of raffia to add to the tropical tiki feeling.

Table Decorations

Dressing up the tables is a simple way to decorate for a barbecue. If you don't want to go with traditional checkered tablecloths, try covering the tables with burlap instead. The burlap keeps with the rustic, outdoor feel of the barbecue. Use sunflowers in floral centerpieces to create a summer-like feeling on each table. Add rustic lanterns on the tabletops for more decorative centerpieces. Wrap the silverware in bandanas for the place settings.
