Make Homemade Birthday Centerpieces

Children's birthday parties can become expensive, especially when you factor in snacks, cake, presents and party favors and decorations. One way to cut costs while planning your child's birthday party is by creating your own birthday table centerpieces. This can be done inexpensively with items found in your home, which will give the centerpiece a personal touch. A cute table centerpiece is a balloon bouquet. This can be accomplished easily with few materials. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Rent a helium tank for filling balloons. These can be rented at most party stores. If you don't want to rent a helium tank, most party stores will fill balloons for you for a minimal fee.

2. Choose a few toys from your child's collection. These should be small to mid-sized toys with some weight to them that are relevant to the party theme. For example, choose a princess doll or crown for a princess-themed birthday party.

3. Cut three varying lengths of ribbon for each toy. The lengths should correspond to how high you want the balloons to float.

4. Fill the balloons with helium one at a time if a helium tank was rented. Do this by placing the open mouth of the balloon around the helium tank nozzle and twisting the knob at the top of the tank. Knot the ends of each balloon as it is filled and place the balloons under a sheet. If you decided to get the balloons filled at a party store instead of renting a helium tank, proceed to Step 5.

5. Tie the ends of the ribbons to the knot of the balloon. These can be tied in bows or regular knots depending on the style you desire.

6. Wrap the ends of three ribbons (with balloons attached) around each toy and tie in a bow or knot.

7. Position closed scissors at the bottom (closest to the bow or knot) of the excess ribbon and slide the scissors, with pressure, up and along the ribbon. This will curl the ends of the ribbon for a more finished look.
