Make Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes For A Kids Birthday Party

Use a pastry bag to make the frosting look like ice cream.

Celebrate your little one's birthday with a twist on the traditional cupcake -- make ice cream cone cupcakes. While flat-bottom ice cream cones work best if you're in a hurry, you also can use more flavorful sugar or waffle cones. Regardless of the type of cone you choose, take advantage of a little trick to prevent the cake batter from leaking out. Place a big marshmallow in the bottom of each flat-bottom cone before adding the batter. Add several miniature marshmallows to each sugar or waffle cone. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Prepare the cake mix according to the package directions. Follow the package's instructions for cupcakes when preheating your oven.

2. Wrap the top of a deep tube pan with at least two layers of aluminum foil if you're using pointy ice cream cones. Use a sharp knife to carefully poke small holes through the foil -- leave a couple of inches between each hole. Place a sugar or waffle cone in each slot. Set flat-bottomed ice cream cones in a muffin tin or baking pan.

3. Add marshmallows to the bottom of the ice cream cones.

4. Add the cake batter. Fill each cone a little more than halfway; this prevents the batter from overflowing.

5. Put the ice cream cone cupcakes into the oven. Shave 5 to 7 minutes off the box's recommended baking time. Stick a toothpick into the center of a cupcake to test it; the cake is done if the toothpick comes out clean.

6. Let the ice cream cones cool completely.

7. Decorate each cupcake with frosting.
