Treat bags are a fun idea at a birthday party. One way to use them is to pass them out to guests as they leave as a way of saying thank you for coming. Treat bags are an inexpensive way to show your appreciation; you can buy small, 99-cent bags and fill them with inexpensive items. They are also a versatile idea. Use a little imagination to fill the bags with items guests will truly be pleased to receive. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Bake some homemade goodies to put in your gift bags.
Feed your guests. Make a treat bag that features edible goodies. Show off your baking skills by stocking bags with homemade muffins, cookies, bars or brownies. If baking isn't your fort , make a breakfast bag by stocking it with a small tin of biscuit mix and jar of jam, jelly or preserves; or a snack bag with a little block cheese and some fancy crackers. Another option: Stock treat bags with tea mixes or coffee grounds, or with the recipe for a cocktail and a mini bottle of alcohol. Fill treat bags for kids with one or two mini candy bars or a large lollipop.
2. Put thimbles and thread in the treat bag for a friend who loves to knit.
Personalize the bags. Give each guest a treat bag tailor-made just for them. (This idea is better suited to small gatherings with only a few guests.) For a friend who enjoys knitting, put colorful thread and a thimble in the bag. For a gardener, use seed packets and gardening gloves. For a barbecue aficionado, include a recipe card and bottle of barbecue sauce with a funny name. For a dog lover, give a dog brush and bag of doggy treats for Fido.
3. Potholders in the treat bags keep with your dinner party theme.
Stick with the theme. If you had a themed birthday party, use that as inspiration for your treat bags.
For an Irish or St. Patrick's Day birthday party, stock bags with a shamrock magnet and coins of "gold" -- chocolate wrapped in yellow foil. For a wild west party, stock bags with a lantern keychain, a cookie shaped like a cowboy hat and a recipe card for BBQ ribs. For a dinner party, use a potholder rolled up and tied with ribbon and a piece of candy. For a luau party, give a package of dried pineapple or a cookie cutter shaped like a dolphin.
