Organize A 60th Birthday Party

A 60th birthday party can follow a theme.

According to LaterLife.com, a "60th birthday deserves something special to mark such a milestone." Throwing a 60th birthday party is one way of celebrating such a momentous event. There is a lot to consider when organizing a 60th birthday party and it is important not to forget any crucial steps. However, each 60th birthday party can be as elaborate as the host's time and budget allow. Hosts can use their creativity to create an event that suits the guest of honor's personality. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Determine the type and theme of the party. Ideas to consider are a formal dinner party, a costume party, a murder mystery party, a surprise party, etc. If desired, decide on a theme for the party that fits with the type of party you decided on. Possible themes include the decade the guest of honor was born in, such as a 1950s party, the guest of honor's favorite sport's team, such as a Portland Trailblazers party, or one of the guest of honor's favorite movies, such as a "Casablanca" party.

2. Book a venue for the party that can accommodate the number of guests you wish to invite. Make sure the venue also fits with the type and theme of the party. For example, if you have decided on a formal dinner party, choose a venue with a kitchen, such as a home, a restaurant or a hotel banquet room. Choose a venue that suits your overall budget for the party, leaving money for food, decorations, entertainment and invitations. Book the venue in as far advance as possible to ensure it is not already booked.

3. Hire entertainment for the party in the form of a band, DJ or another type of performer, such as a magician or comedian. Keep the guest of honor's musical taste in mind when booking a band or DJ. If the party has a theme, make sure the band's or DJ's music fits with the theme. For example, if the theme is the 1950s the band should play songs from the 1950s.

4. Decide what food and beverages will be served and in what manner they will be served. Hire caterers or provide the food yourself. Decide if you want to serve food in the form of a sit-down meal or a buffet. If the party doesn't run during a mealtime, provide snacks. Bake or order a cake that fits the theme and/or reflects the 60th birthday milestone. Purchase cake topper candles that are shaped in "6" and a "0" to avoid placing 60 individual birthday candles on the cake.

Decide on the beverage arrangement for the party. If the party is held at a venue outside the home, inquire about the venue's liquor license to make sure it is OK to serve alcoholic drinks at the party. Hire bar tenders or use the venue's own bar tending staff if necessary. Choose a beverage system that fits with your budget, as open bar parties can be very expensive for the host.

5. Send out invitations for the birthday party that reflect the momentous nature of the event. A 60th birthday party is a landmark event, so reflect the excitement of the occasion in your invitation wording. Include the basic attendance details (date, time and venue) and the RSVP information on the invitations. Mention the type and theme of the party so guests can plan accordingly. Send the invitations a month in advance so guests have time to plan their attendance.

6. Decorate and set up the venue so it reflects the party type and theme. For example, arrange tables and chairs, hang banners, blow up balloons, arrange centerpieces and lay out name tags. Arrive at the venue at least an hour early to make sure everything is in place for the party.
