Make Homemade Grass Skirts

Grass skirts are a popular party favor for luaus and summer beach parties. While hula skirts can be purchased online or in party stores, they can often be expensive. However, it's easy to make an inexpensive raffia skirt at home, using common crafting supplies and tools. In addition to making a fun party favor and decoration, homemade grass skirts are useful for Halloween or other costume parties and events as well. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Cut out a piece of fabric that is 12 inches longer than the circumference of the waist and 2 inches wide. This will form the waistband of the skirt.

2. Cut five pieces of raffia for every inch of the waistband. Each raffia piece should be long enough to reach from the waist to the ankles.

3. Hot glue the raffia pieces all along the waistband, stopping 6 inches from each end. These ends will be the ties used to hold the skirt on the waist.

4. Hot glue artificial flowers around the waistband over the raffia, stopping 6 inches from each end.
