Let a group of teens enjoy an evening party at the beach.
Planning a Sweet 16 birthday celebration on a budget can be an easy task with a little bit of planning, forethought and creativity. Plan the party at home and organize activities that coordinate with the party group's interests, or bring the party to a low-cost or free venue with on-site activities. Does this Spark an idea?
Home Dance Club Party
For a group of teens who love to dance, organize a dance club party at home. Arrange the indoor or outdoor party area to resemble a dance club with twinkling lights hung from the ceiling. Rent a few strobe lights or other visual effect equipment to add to the d cor. Organize the party months in advance and book a disc jockey for the event who will offer discount pricing for booking early. Alternatively, let the teenagers take turns being the DJ or make mix CDs of the group's favorite music and play one after another. For a daring crowd, bring out the karaoke machine for some good laughs. Serve simple finger foods and have plenty of water, juice and soda beverages available.
Home Spa Party
For teens who love to feel pampered and grown up, host a spa party at home. Set up tables in the party area with a chair on either side. Organize pampering items on each table, such as paraffin hand wraps and nail lacquers on one table, hair styling products on another and cosmetic items on a third table. Try to employ the help of friends with some familiarity with beauty techniques to help apply the pampering treatments. Let the party guests rotate between the tables. Set up a simple photo backdrop at one end of the room and when everyone is ready, have the girls show off their new looks for the camera.
Mall Scavenger Hunt Party
For a group of teens who live to shop, organize a scavenger hunt at the mall. For a free birthday party activity, make a list of items that could be found lying around the mall. Items can include paper clips or staples, food court napkins, shopping bags, credit card applications, old receipts, straws, brochures, mall maps, clearance stickers and pieces of tape. Divide the party group into two teams and have them search out the items on the list. The group who finds all of the items the fastest wins the game. For a small party with a little bit of money to spare, divide the group into teams of three people and give each a little bit of money, such as $20. The objective for the game is to purchase the most amount of things with that money and no two items may be purchased from the same store. The group who purchases the most items wins the game.
Party at the Beach
Host a party at the beach for warm weather Sweet 16 birthdays. For a daytime party, have the guests bring along bathing suits to enjoy a swim, and set up some towels or blankets in the sand so that those who would prefer not to swim can enjoy lounging on the beach. Organize a game of beach volleyball and bring along a portable music player to keep the guest of honor's favorite music playing throughout the event. Bring a picnic lunch for the guests to enjoy, or where permitted, have a hamburger and hot dog barbecue for lunch. For a party that extends into the evening, encourage the teens to get up and dance or have a bonfire.
