Drew Barrymore
grew from a troubled, child actress into not only one of the most famous actresses in the world but also the owner of her own production company. She wasn't satisfied with just being in the movies, and she wanted to control what went on behind the scenes. You too can be in charge of your own fate, but it's going to take a lot of hard work and money.
Instructions
1. Get a partner. Drew Barrymore started her production company with her friend Nancy Juvonen. Look for someone who you not only get along with but who has a good eye for scripts and a solid understanding of the movie business. Start scouting people from movie production companies, because you'll need someone with specific knowledge about the movie business.
2. Write a business plan. Outline how your production company will be set up, how you'll get the money necessary and how you will ensure your investors a profit. No investors will want to give you money unless you can specifically tell them how you are going to make them even more money with your production company.
3. Get some investors interested. Talk to anyone you know who has a great deal of money and is interested in making more. This is when your detailed business plan will be put into effect. The better your business plan, the more interested your investors will be.
4. Hire a lawyer and an accountant to help with the actual running of the business, especially if you don't have any experience in that area. Your lawyer will ensure that your business doesn't do anything illegal and your accountant will make sure you don't run out of money. Barrymore has the resources for an entire legal team, but you may have to work with one lawyer and one accountant to begin with.
5. Produce romantic comedies. Drew Barrymore's production company has ventured out into other types of films, such as the dark sci-fi flick "Donnie Darko," but the majority of them have had some sort of romantic aspect. Scout writing talent and look for writers who are skilled but haven't written much yet, so they'll be happy to work with a burgeoning production company.
6. Star in the movies you're producing. Drew Barrymore usually has at least a minor role in most of the movies she produces, and you should too if you want your production company to be like Drew's.
