During the summer months, local communities, amusement parks and tourist destinations fill their calendars with events for kids and families. Select venues also offer concerts, festivals and holiday events throughout the remainder of the year. Families with children can find programs throughout the state, designed for the entire family or specifically for children.
Atlantic City
Atlantic City offers a variety of family and kid's events throughout the year. From May to September families can enjoy Night at the Movies, free movie screenings at locations including local parks, playgrounds, plazas and the beach. The Thursdays in the Park Concert Series offers free concerts in Center City Park from July to September. Adults and children can enjoy free exhibitions and performances by the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard, U.S. Army, U.S Navy and U.S. Coast Guard during the annual summer Atlantic City Airshow. Renault Winery Resort & Golf welcomes visitors for the Grape Stomping Festival and Craft Fair. The free biannual event features handmade crafts and barbecue, along with grape stomping programs. The Concert Series at Gardner's Basin features free musical performances during summer months.
Six Flags Great Adventures and Wild Safari
Six Flags Great Adventures and Wild Safari in Jackson schedules events throughout the year. The summer Animal Adventure Camp gives kids the opportunity to learn about wildlife through live animal presentations. The five-day sessions are open to kids 6 to 12 years of age. The Summer Concert Series has featured such musical acts as Dashboard Confessional, Mitchel Musso and tribute bands. Six Flags' autumn schedule includes Fall Family Fun Night, featuring amusement park rides and a preview of the annual Fright Fest Halloween event. The Fall Physics Day event features physics workshops and classroom activities for science buffs. To close the park season, Six Flags offers the Wine and Food Experience, featuring music, a cooking competition and exhibits by local wineries.
Toms River
Toms River offers a number of family events from spring to fall. The Chili and Salsa Cook Off, held during the spring, features a chili-eating contest, stilt walkers, balloon artists, a coloring contest and rides for kids. Toms River's Cruisin' Downtown car show, held the second Wednesday of each month from May to September, gives families and kids an opportunity to view hot rods, classic cars and motorcycles. The event also features contests, live music and street vendors. The annual Halloween parade includes floats, Halloween movies, music and costumes. Ice cream lovers of all ages can find frozen treats at the annual summer New Jersey State Ice Cream Festival. The event includes food, games, entertainment, rides and a coloring contest for kids.
