A colorful and festive centerpiece can be the star of your table
Birthday parties are always more memorable when the host includes festive decorations. According to the Prop Factory, an event and party planning company in Boston, Massachusetts, the table centerpiece is generally the first thing your guests notice and comment on when they walk into a party. Be creative with your centerpiece and you'll leave a lasting impression on your guests. Does this Spark an idea?
Theme Birthday Party Centerpieces
For birthdays with specific themes, purchase or make a centerpiece that pulls the theme together on the table. For a pirate themed party you can turn any small, unique chest into a treasure chest by draping the sides with gold party beads and filling the inside with costume jewelry and fake gemstone rings bought at a party store. Sprinkle gold foil chocolate coins around the base of the chest (and tell the guests they're free to eat them), along with some pirate paraphernalia like eye patches. For the movie fanatic, have a movie-night birthday party. Fill a large popcorn bucket with miniature bags and boxes of candy, such as Junior Mints and M&Ms, that each guest can actually select to eat while enjoying the movie. Toss some popcorn kernels around the bucket for an added touch. A couple of months before the party, ask friends and family if they'll hold on to any movie ticket stubs they have so you can glue the stubs on to the sides of the bucket or spread them out around it.
Children's Character Birthday Party Centerpieces
Children generally love character parties, whether it's a Disney character or a favorite from Nickelodeon like Sponge Bob. Party stores are full of pre-made table decorations, but you can add a personal touch to any store bought item. For a princess party, buy a pre-made princess hat and use a glue gun to glue on some of the guest of honor's favorite things, like stickers of unicorns and castles, a photo of the birthday girl and some sequins and feathers. For a youngster who loves "Toy Story," prop up Woody and Buzz Lightyear dolls in the center of the table with a balloon tied to each of their wrists. You can give the dolls to the guest of honor as a present when the party is over. For the "Dora the Explorer" lover, buy a purple backpack and fill the inside with party favors that the guests can take home after the party. Decorate the outside of the backpack with two eyes you've cut out of felt and tie curly ribbons to the straps along with helium filled Mylar balloons decorated with Dora and Boots.
Milestone Birthday Party Centerpieces
Every birthday is special, but milestone birthday parties require an extra bit of flare when planning decorations. For the friend turning 50, place a shallow bucket with items such as brochures from nursing homes, a bottle of prune juice, fake false teeth, a bottle of Geritol and a copy of "American Association of Retired Persons" (AARP) magazine, in the center of the table. Sprinkle the table with black confetti and string some fake cobwebs throughout the items. For a young man turning 21, focus your centerpiece on some of the things he can do now that he's "legal," such as filling a larger than life martini glass with poker chips and a mini-decks of cards. Encircle the martini glass with shot glasses filled with colorful votive candles.
