Ideas For Hawaiian Or Luau Birthday Cards

Use classic images to evoke a Hawaiian or luau theme.

Making a birthday card is a chance to send your personal wishes for a happy birthday. If your recipient is from Hawaii, lives there now or is throwing a luau-themed party, customizing your card to match the theme will add that extra memorable touch. Let the colorful, exotic feel of a tropical paradise inspire a birthday card full of warm thoughts and treasures.

Collage Card

A collage card is one way to fill the cover with evocative images of a Hawaiian or luau theme. If the recipient is a foodie, place a glossy picture of a pineapple in the center surrounded by towering coconut trees. Incorporate details about the birthday girl, including her zodiac sign and birthday flower. Use an image of a Hawaiian sunrise on the inside to emphasize a personal message of hope for the year ahead.

Map Card

Remind the birthday boy of his time spent in Hawaii with a birthday card featuring a map of the islands he has visited. Mark his favorite places on the map with miniature surfer dudes or hula girls. If you live near a sandy spot, write his name in the sand with a heart or balloon around it, and take a picture. Print or glue the image on the inside of the card.

Postcard Card

Design the birthday card to look like a vintage Hawaiian postcard with an iconic image and "Aloha Hawaii" in the largest font possible, or use an actual postcard for the cover. Vintage Hawaiian postcards are available in vintage souvenir and online specialty shops. Paste silk flowers from a lei on the corners and round the corners of the card for an authentic touch. On the inside, glue a copy of the recipient in Hawaii or showing off her limbo skills.

Hawaiian Shirt Card

Bright and bold, a Hawaiian shirt can put your recipient in a carefree, Hawaiian state of mind. Find an old shirt in a thrift store or make your own flower print on paper. Glue the fabric or paper to card stock cut into the shape of a Hawaiian button-down shirt. Punch a hole through the collar and string a lei through so your recipient can hang the card like an ornament. Include a recipe for your favorite Hawaiian dish or drink on the inside. Glue the stick of a colorful drink umbrella to the inside center of the card and sign off with a simple "Cheers."
